busterblog - BREAKING: Federal Executive Council to Hold Special Session Today in Honour of Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The Presidency has announced that a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will be held today, Thursday, July 17, at 5:00 PM, in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier this week.

This solemn gathering is expected to bring together top government officials, ministers, and key aides of President Bola Tinubu to pay their final respects to Buhari, who led the country as a two-time leader — first as a military Head of State (1983–1985) and later as a democratically elected President (2015–2023).

According to insiders within the Villa, the special session will take place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and will include tributes, prayers, and reflections on Buhari’s impact on Nigeria’s political history, governance, and national security architecture.

President Tinubu is expected to preside over the session, during which several ministers who served under Buhari — as well as those who succeeded them — may deliver remarks highlighting the late leader’s contributions to anti-corruption, infrastructure, agriculture, and oil sector reforms.

This comes as tributes continue to pour in from global leaders, elder statesmen, and citizens across Nigeria, reflecting on the legacy of a man who once described himself as "for everybody and for nobody."

Buhari was laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites, in a funeral that drew emotional crowds and a heavy presence of dignitaries.

Today’s FEC session is expected to be broadcast live across national media platforms as Nigerians from all walks of life tune in to witness the federal government’s final collective farewell to a former commander-in-chief.

More updates to follow as the session unfolds.
