BREAKING: Scott Iguma to Be Arraigned in Lagos Today Over Alleged Ponzi Allegations Against PWAN Group

busterblog - BREAKING: Scott Iguma to Be Arraigned in Lagos Today Over Alleged Ponzi Allegations Against PWAN Group

In what has become one of the most talked-about legal battles in Nigeria’s influencer space, controversial social media personality Scott Iguma is set to be arraigned today, July 17, 2025, before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, following his viral allegations that PWAN Group, a prominent real estate firm, is operating a Ponzi scheme.

The Federal Government has filed a 10-count charge against Iguma, accusing him of defamation, incitement, and cyberbullying over statements he made earlier this year in multiple Instagram posts and videos where he warned Nigerians to avoid investing in the PWAN Group, claiming the company’s model mimicked that of a typical Ponzi setup. Iguma even cited the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in his claims, alleging the agency had blacklisted the firm — a claim SEC has yet to publicly verify or deny.

Iguma, known for his aggressive consumer advocacy and whistleblowing-style content, had triggered widespread public concern when he revealed that many Nigerians had invested in properties with companies like PWAN but were left stranded without allocation or refund. He further alleged that other real estate firms like Gtext Homes and Deluxe Residences had refunded affected customers after he involved the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while PWAN refused to do so.

The real estate giant quickly fired back, accusing the influencer of launching a “calculated campaign of defamation” aimed at sabotaging their brand reputation and investor confidence. Following a petition by the company, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Iguma on July 16 and confirmed that he would be arraigned the next day on multiple counts tied to cybercrime, defamation, and public disturbance.

The arraignment has stirred intense conversation online, with many Nigerians torn between supporting Iguma’s bold activism and questioning his methods. While some hail him as a much-needed voice against financial exploitation in Nigeria’s booming but loosely regulated real estate sector, others argue that such allegations, especially made online, should be backed by legal evidence, not social media outrage.

A major point of interest in today’s hearing will be whether Iguma is granted bail or remanded in custody pending trial. His legal team, led by prominent Lagos human rights attorneys, is expected to challenge the charges on the grounds of freedom of speech and public interest protection.

Meanwhile, supporters of Iguma have called for mass awareness, stressing that the court case could set a precedent for how Nigeria handles digital activism, whistleblowing, and the blurred lines between truth-telling and online defamation.

As the legal fireworks begin in Ikoyi, one question remains on everyone’s lips: Is Scott Iguma a rogue voice crying wolf or a lone warrior standing up to a predatory system?
