The World Police Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, came to a remarkable close on May 15th, 2025, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crimes. Among the distinguished attendees was Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, who actively participated in high-level discussions aimed at fostering global collaboration among law enforcement agencies.

Addressing the pressing issue of transnational organized crimes, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the need for robust collaboration between global and local police forces. He pointed out that criminal networks are evolving with increasing sophistication, often transcending national borders. To effectively counter such threats, the IGP stressed the importance of intelligence-led policing, real-time data sharing, and coordinated inter-agency efforts.

IGP Egbetokun acknowledged the invaluable role played by INTERPOL member states, whose cooperative efforts have significantly contributed to the achievements of INTERPOL NCB Nigeria. He particularly praised recent joint operations conducted through INTERPOL frameworks, which resulted in the interception of wanted individuals, dismantling of human trafficking networks, and neutralization of cybercrime rings. Such successes, he noted, are crucial in maintaining regional and global security.

During his engagements with global police leaders, IGP Egbetokun reiterated Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to international policing cooperation. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to support global security initiatives and public safety programs. His address resonated with the summit’s theme of fostering a united front against increasingly complex criminal activities.

The summit’s grand closing dinner, attended by global dignitaries, further underscored the spirit of unity and collaboration. High-profile attendees included Vice President of INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd.), the Commissioner General of Ethiopia Police, Demelash Michael Weldeyes, and the Senegalese Inspector-General of Police, General Mame Seydou Ndour. The Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, and CP Uche Ifeanyi, Director of the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC), were also present, along with other prominent security leaders from around the world.

A significant moment of the evening was the recognition of Adele Gesso, a dedicated police officer who, despite being wheelchair-bound, demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication. She was honored with the People of Determination Excellence Award, symbolizing the summit’s commitment to inclusivity and human-centered policing. Gesso’s recognition served as an inspiration, reminding attendees of the vital role of resilience and dedication in law enforcement.

The 2025 World Police Summit concluded on a hopeful note, with leaders reaffirming their commitment to fostering a safer global community through collaboration and innovation. IGP Egbetokun’s active participation and his call for strengthened global partnerships left a lasting impact, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a key player in the international fight against transnational crime.

As the summit concluded, participants expressed optimism about the future of global policing, buoyed by the collective resolve demonstrated throughout the event. The commitment to leveraging technology, intelligence, and partnership remains essential in the ongoing battle against organized crime.
