The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, while also issuing a firm directive to his partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to stop using the family surname “Aloba” until the court-mandated DNA test is completed.

The statement, jointly signed by Omolayo Aloba, the family head, and Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, was released between Tuesday and Wednesday, underscoring growing tension between both families as the legal and social controversies surrounding the late artist’s death continue to unfold.

According to the release, the family emphasized that it remains committed to uncovering the truth behind Mohbad’s tragic passing, reiterating that justice cannot be achieved without a transparent and comprehensive re-investigation. The family also expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and handling of the initial probe, urging authorities to reopen the case and pursue all unresolved leads.

Their statement further instructed Wunmi, Mohbad’s estranged partner and mother of his son, Liam, to desist from using “Aloba” in any formal or public capacity until the outcome of the pending DNA test determines the child’s paternity. This development follows months of heated public debate over whether the child is biologically Mohbad’s — a controversy that has divided fans and drawn intense social media scrutiny.

The call for a renewed investigation comes amid persistent public demand for accountability in the singer’s death, which occurred under mysterious circumstances in September 2023, sparking nationwide protests and a series of arrests. Despite earlier police inquiries, many supporters and family members maintain that crucial details remain buried.

As the Aloba family renews its quest for justice, the late singer’s legacy continues to loom large — not just in his music, but in the ongoing battle over truth, identity, and the unanswered questions surrounding one of Nigeria’s most shocking celebrity deaths.
