Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, a seasoned technocrat and former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 Osun State election. Oyebamiji's emergence followed a consensus primary election held on December 13, 2025, where he was unanimously affirmed as the party's candidate by 1,660 delegates from the state's 30 local government areas and 332 wards.
In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to the primary election committee, party leaders, and delegates for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to prioritize poverty reduction, revitalize the health sector, and address the infrastructural deficits confronting the state. "I will foster productivity and people-oriented projects, thereby putting the people first," he said.
Oyebamiji, a native of Ikire, Irewole local government area of Osun State, brings a wealth of experience in finance and public administration to the table. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Lagos State University and an MBA from the University of Ado Ekiti. His career spans over two decades, with stints in banking, finance, and public service.
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Oyebamiji on his emergence, urging him to be magnanimous in victory by reaching out to all party leaders and former aspirants. Tinubu expressed confidence that the unity displayed by the party during the primary would strengthen its prospects ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Oyebamiji's emergence has been welcomed by APC leaders and supporters in Osun State, who are optimistic about his chances of reclaiming the state from the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke. The APC governorship candidate has promised to run a people-oriented government, focusing on key sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
