In a move set to bring major relief to millions of Nigerian households, DStv and GOtv have officially rolled out weekly subscription plans, giving customers more flexible and affordable access to their favorite channels.
The announcement was confirmed today by MultiChoice, the parent company of both platforms, signaling a major shift from the previous monthly-only subscription model that had long been criticized as rigid and unaffordable for many low-income earners.
Under the new system, subscribers can now pay for just seven days of access on select packages, allowing greater control over entertainment budgets—especially amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic hardship and rising cost of living.
A MultiChoice spokesperson stated:
> “We understand that times are tough, and we want to make sure every customer can still enjoy great entertainment at a price that works for them.”
Although the weekly plans will not cover all bouquet tiers, early reports indicate that popular packages like GOtv Jolli and DStv Yanga will have weekly versions priced as low as ₦800–₦1,500, depending on the plan and region.
Nigerians on social media have greeted the development with mixed reactions—some praising the flexibility, while others demand even daily subscription options and pay-per-view models.
Still, industry experts are calling this a positive step that could help MultiChoice retain customers amid rising competition from online streaming platforms and shifting viewer habits.
For now, subscribers are encouraged to check the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps or visit their local dealers to activate the new weekly options.
As inflation bites deeper into the average Nigerian pocket, one thing is clear: entertainment must evolve—and affordability is the new king.
