The Turkish government has issued a stark warning, claiming that members of a group it labels as the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) are active in Nigeria and other countries across the globe.

According to Ankara, the group—accused of masterminding the failed coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016—continues to operate covertly through a network of schools, businesses, and associations.

In a statement shared through its diplomatic channels, the Turkish government urged Nigerian authorities and the international community to be vigilant and take decisive action against what it calls a \"global security threat.\" It further alleged that FETO operatives use educational institutions and humanitarian fronts in Africa, including Nigeria, to recruit followers and funnel resources back to their core network abroad.

The FETO group is allegedly led by exiled cleric Fethullah Gülen, who resides in the United States. Gülen, however, has consistently denied involvement in the 2016 coup attempt and any links to terrorism.

Nonetheless, Turkey has continued a sweeping crackdown on individuals and entities it believes are affiliated with him—both at home and abroad.

Nigeria has yet to officially respond to the allegations, but diplomatic observers say the claim could impact bilateral relations, especially in sectors like education, where several Turkish-linked schools operate within the country.

The Turkish government has previously requested the closure or transfer of such institutions in various countries, arguing that they serve as fronts for FETO activity.

As international scrutiny grows, questions loom about the evidence supporting Turkey\'s claims and how host nations like Nigeria will navigate the diplomatic tightrope between respecting sovereignty and responding to foreign security concerns. More updates are expected as this story unfolds.
