Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has sparked conversation after boldly declaring that infidelity and polygamy are part of human nature and will never completely disappear from Nigerian society.
Speaking during an interview, the respected actress explained that human desires and societal pressures make such issues inevitable. According to her, no matter how much people preach fidelity or push for monogamy, the reality is that these practices will always persist because of cultural acceptance and human tendencies.
“Infidelity and polygamy are things that will always exist,” she said, stressing that Nigeria’s history and traditions have long normalized polygamy, while modern influences have made secrecy around relationships more rampant.
Akintola, who has built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most outspoken and fearless voices, went further to note that women in particular have had to bear the brunt of these realities, often expected to endure them in silence while men move on freely. She urged society to face the truth rather than pretend that these issues can be erased.
Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some applauded her blunt honesty, others criticized the statement as a justification for immorality and a lack of accountability in relationships.
Still, her remarks echo a sentiment many quietly share — that despite modernization, urbanization, and Western influence, Nigerian society continues to wrestle with deep-rooted traditions that make infidelity and polygamy enduring fixtures of family life.
