In a dramatic turn of events, Nigerian authorities have arrested Hadaina Hussaini Dan-Taki, a man who falsely presented himself as a Kaduna State police officer, for issuing dangerous threats against southerners in the northern region.

This arrest comes in the wake of the tragic Uromi killings in Edo State, an incident that has sparked widespread tension across the country.

The Nigerian Police have also publicly distanced themselves from Hussaini, clarifying that he is not a legitimate member of their force, as reported on April 5, 2025.

The Uromi killings, which occurred on March 28, 2025, in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, involved a horrific mob attack that claimed the lives of seven individuals initially suspected to be kidnappers.

Further investigations revealed that the victims were northern Hausa hunters, traveling in a commercial truck when they were intercepted by local security operatives.

The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, condemned the act as \"barbaric\" and vowed to ensure that those responsible for the mob justice would face the full weight of the law.

According to reports, 14 suspects linked to the killings have been apprehended and transferred to Abuja for further interrogation, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing the incident and its fallout.

Hussaini’s threats emerged as a direct response to the Uromi tragedy, which had already heightened ethnic and regional tensions in Nigeria.

In a now-viral social media post, he called for reprisal attacks on southerners living in the northern part of the country, claiming that the killings in Uromi demanded such a response.

His comments, which were widely circulated and condemned, prompted swift action from concerned citizens and authorities alike.

An X user, identified as #UcheDIgboezeson, shared a screenshot of Hussaini’s inflammatory statement, tagging the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and urging immediate action.

Adejobi responded promptly, assuring the public that the matter would be addressed.

Further investigation into Hussaini’s background revealed that he was not a serving police officer, as he had claimed.

The Kaduna State Police Command clarified that Hussaini had been a member of the Police Special Constabulary, a voluntary outfit, but was dismissed two years prior due to his questionable character.

The image of him in a police uniform, which he used to bolster his false claims, was from his time in the constabulary and was deemed improper by the authorities.

Following the backlash, Hussaini attempted to cover his tracks by changing his name on social media and restricting access to his Facebook page, but it was too late to evade the consequences of his actions.

This incident underscores the dangers of misinformation and the potential for social media to amplify divisive rhetoric in a country already grappling with ethnic and regional divides.

Nigeria has a history of tension between its northern and southern regions, often exacerbated by incidents of violence and reprisals.

The Uromi killings and Hussaini’s subsequent threats highlight the urgent need for responsible communication, especially on platforms like X, where inflammatory statements can quickly escalate into real-world violence.

As the investigation into both the Uromi killings and Hussaini’s actions continues, Nigerians are left to reflect on the importance of unity and the role of law enforcement in maintaining peace in a diverse nation.
